Termite Baiting
Termite baiting has been used frequently in the past few years. Termite baits are not a permanent cure for termites. They are instead another tool in the arsenal of termite control methods. This is why we do not recommend baiting as a “stand alone” treatment. Your personal technician can present more details on this.
First and of most importance, termites avoid areas of disturbance! Therefore an effective termite baiting system must not disturb termites feeding in system stations. However, because termite baiting is a multistep process, methods were developed to pre-bait, bait & re-bait infested stations without overly disturbing the termites feeding in the stations.
Secondly, the bait must compete with other food sources. Unlike many other insect control situations, it is impossible to remove alternate competing food sources that termites can feed upon instead of the bait. Therefore at a minimum, termites must feed on bait at least as readily as they feed on natural food sources. Ideally, the bait would be formulated such that termites preferred to feed on the bait when given a choice between their natural food source and the bait.
Third, the active ingredient chosen for the baiting must be selected such that its mode of action defeats the tendency of termites to avoid substances that are causing colony members to die.
Freedom Termite & Pest Control, Inc. has chosen a superior baiting system developed by Ensystex because it overcomes these three strong obstacles.
Ensystex calls their system of baiting Exterra. This baiting system is a straightforward two-step process. The first step is to install stations and establish termite feeding within the stations. The second step is to make available to the termites within the station a substance they will consume until the colony is eliminated.
